MICRONEEDLING

What is microneedling? Microneedling Therapy, also called, Collagen Induction Therapy, and Percutaneous Collagen Induction, is a minimally invasive skin-rejuvenation procedure that involves the use of a needling device. The needles are used to puncture the skin and created controlled injury at a specific depth. Each puncture creates a channel that triggers the body to heal these micro wounds by producing new collagen and elastin in the papillary dermis. In addition, new capillaries are formed for improved blood supply. The microneedling process stimulates the improvement in skin texture, firmness, hydration, as well as reduction of wrinkles, fine lines, pigmentation, scars from trauma or acne, pore size, hair loss, and stretch marks. This rejuvenating treatment will leave the skin revitalized and younger looking.

Rosacea Patients: Due to the skin sensitivity often seen in Rosacea patients, Microneedling by itself can cause problems due to inflammatory response of the procedure. The micro injuries release a variety of growth factors, many of which are quite inflammatory and can exasperate the condition. However, microneedling with PRP uses the patient’s own human growth factors that are strictly anti-inflammatory and strengthen vessel walls. Considering microneedling does not remove the outer layers of skin, it can be used with PRP to treat mild or light rosacea with great success!

What should I expect after a microneedling treatment?

Most patients will experience redness and mild swelling, similar to a bad sunburn. Some may have small areas of pinpoint bleeding and some, even bruising. These effects can last 24-48 hours. Patients will be given specific aftercare instructions from the Medical Aesthetician for post-microneedling treatments.

What areas of your body can be treated with microneedling?

Microneedling can be performed on any area of the body, except for the lips and eyelids. The skin in these areas is too thin and microneedling can damage those areas.

Rule of thumb for skin improvement

After 1st procedure: 20-40%

After 2nd procedure: about 50% of the 1st treatment

After 3rd procedure: about 50% of the 2nd treatment

In total: 50-70% overall improvement after only 3 treatments.
